- Rascal Flatts picked Taylor Swift to open for them in 2008 — now they’ve picked her label, Big Machine Records, as their new musical home. “We are extremely excited about our new partnership with Big Machine Records!” says Jay DeMarcus, bassist and background vocalist for Rascal Flatts. “We believe that Scott Borchetta and all of the folks [...]
- The King is gone, but he’s certainly not forgotten — especially in Memphis, where the city is gearing up for Elvis Week, the annual pilgrimage of fans marking the loss of a cultural icon. This year’s Elvis Presley activities kick off Tuesday, Aug. 10, when an Elvis tribute artist (that’s a euphemism for Elvis impersonator) re-creates one of Presley’s first noteworthy concerts at a venue formerly known as the Overton Park Shell. It all wraps up Aug. 16 — the anniversary of Elvis’ 1977 death — with a concert at Graceland Mansion. In between those bookends is a wealth of panel discussions, movie screenings and even a 5k run and walk. Naomi Judd’s husband, Larry Strickland, will take part in a performance during one event as a member of the Stamps Quartet. He was a part of the vocal group when it toured with Elvis during the 1970s.
- When Ottawa Senators hockey player Mike Fisher married Carrie Underwood July 10, he knew what he was getting into. The bride is beautiful, talented and under a lot of scrutiny. Because of that, any man on her arm is also going to be the source of public interest — especially when his job is the kind of public vocation that a pro athlete pursues. So when when Mike broke to chat with reporters during a hockey camp for kids in Canada on Wednesday, he was prepared for an onslaught of relationship-related questions, including how he’s adjusting to paparazzi.
- James Otto is sounding very happy-go-lucky of late, what with “Groovy Little Summer Song” putting a sunny disposition and a bit of blue-eyed soul into the beach-weather playlist. The song is just one of a dozen tracks set for James’ next album, which is slated for release at the tail end of summer, Sept. 14. The project is titled Shake What God Gave Ya!, and it’s apparently loaded up with the same sort of R&B influences that shade “Groovy Little Summer Song” and his signature hit, “Just Got Started Lovin’ You.”
- One of the old adages of the music business is the tale of the sophomore album: An artist has an entire lifetime to build the material for a debut project, but just a year or 18 months to come up with the songs for the second one. Trisha Yearwood discovered the same principle applies to writing books — specifically, to writing cookbooks. She released Georgia Cooking In An Oklahoma Kitchen, written with her sister and her mother, in 2008. And it went so well that Trisha followed it up this year with another volume, Home Cooking With Trisha Yearwood: Stories And Recipes To Share With Family & Friends.
- We all know Aaron Tippin as one of the most recognizable and influential voices in country music. And you may also know that Aaron is a highly experienced airmen who owns some vintage planes including a 1941 Stearman bi-plane. I’ve personally had the honor and thrill of taking a short flight in that plane over [...]

- If you were listening to your favorite radio station yesterday, you might have heard a new song, “Country Strong,” by an unknown singer named Kelly Canter. Who is Kelly? None other than Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow, star of the upcoming movie, Country Strong, also starring Tim McGraw. In the movie, Gwyneth’s ”Kelly” is a just-out-of-rehab country singer trying to re-start her career. [...]
- Josh Turner and wife Jennifer are expecting their third child. Josh announced yesterday on People.com that his two sons, three-year-old Hampton and one-year-old Colby, will be getting a new sibling come January. “Jennifer and I are very thankful to be expecting our third child,” says Josh. “We’ve always wanted a big family. It’s hard to [...]
- With fall looming, country stars are lining up with dates for new albums and with some brand new singles. Among the acts with new songs in release are Reba McEntire, Kenny Chesney and Sugarland, each of whom put out a new single in the last three weeks. Reba’s “Turn On The Radio” comes from an album due in November — her first with in-demand producer Dann Huff, known for his work with Keith Urban and Rascal Flatts. Kenny’s new song, “The Boys Of Fall,” embraces high-school football, and it landed in country’s Top 15 in just its second week on the charts. And Sugarland’s “Stuck Like Glue” was written with two other people, including a member of the rock band Better Than Ezra. Here’s what they’re saying about their new music:
